In 2007, inspired by gastropubs discovered during his global travels, San Diego native Arsalun Tafazoli sought to establish a local, craft-beer-focused eatery that would stand up to the best he’d experienced. Though a lofty goal, he’s done just that with Neighborhood, a gem in downtown’s East Village that delivers a posh, urbanized experience enlivened by a deep and diverse tap lineup offering everything from hopped-up West Coast models to rare Brett-laden beers from across the pond. As if that weren’t enough, the menu of heightened pub fare makes for a rounded-out experience that’s worth writing home about. While the venue’s primary clientele is made of nearby residents, out-of-town beer enthusiasts will feel every bit at home. Fans of beer and baseball would be hard pressed to find a better pre-game spot than this home run of a resto, which is mere blocks from Petco Park.
