An intensely hoppy, very strong pale ale without the big maltiness and/or deeper malt flavors of an American barleywine. Strongly hopped, but clean, lacking harshness, and a tribute to historical IPAs. Drinkability is an important characteristic; not a heavy, sipping beer.
AleSmith X is our refreshing Extra Pale Ale. Pale Yellow color, bright white head. Aroma of fresh hops with notes of citrus and pine. Light bodied, smooth on the palate, with a dry finish and superb aftertaste.
In October of 2004, we released the first beer in our series of Barrel Aged beers, Allagash Curieux. To make the Curieux we age our Tripel Ale in Jim Beam barrels for 8 weeks in our cellar. During the aging process in bourbon barrels, the beer is totally transformed, and many new flavors and aromas develop. Most notably, the beer picks up soft coconut and vanilla characteristics...and also a hint of bourbon flavor!
Very refreshing and thirst quenching.
A decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately strong American pale ale.
The Sculpin is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. It showcases bright flavors and aromas of apricot, peach, mango & lemon. The lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup 2010 in the International Pale Ale category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the tastiest. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.
A harmonious marriage of ingredients, processes and beer. The key attributes of the underlying style (if declared) will be atypical due to the addition of special ingredients or techniques; do not expect the base beer to taste the same as the unadulterated version.
Like an American pale ale with more body, more caramel richness, and a balance more towards malt than hops (although hop rates can be significant).
A very dark, roasty, bitter, creamy ale.
This So-Cal take on a traditional witbier honors Coronado's main street, which is home to our brewpub and was once lined with orange trees. Bolstered by orange zest, coriander and orange blossom honey, its Belgium by way of Coronado. Expect a refreshing, light-bodied brew rife with citrus zing and a hint of earthy spice.
A harmonious marriage of ingredients, processes and beer. The key attributes of the underlying style (if declared) will be atypical due to the addition of special ingredients or techniques; do not expect the base beer to taste the same as the unadulterated version.
A refreshing, elegant, tasty, moderate-strength wheat-based ale.
American Wheat or Rye Beer 6.0%
Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Paso Robles, CA
Refreshing wheat or rye beers that can display more hop character and less yeast character than their German cousins.
A harmonious blend of the base beer style with characteristics from aging in contact with wood (including any alcoholic products previously in contact with the wood). The best examples will be smooth, flavorful, well-balanced and well-aged. Beers made using either limited wood aging or products that only provide a subtle background character may be entered in the base beer style categories as long as the wood character isn’t prominently featured.
A refreshing, medium to strong fruity/spicy ale with a distinctive yellow-orange color, highly carbonated, well hopped, and dry with a quenching acidity.
A decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately strong American pale ale.
Generally dry, full-bodied, austere.
An intensely hoppy, very strong pale ale without the big maltiness and/or deeper malt flavors of an American barleywine. Strongly hopped, but clean, lacking harshness, and a tribute to historical IPAs. Drinkability is an important characteristic; not a heavy, sipping beer.
Double Hump is our contribution to the West Coast / San Diego Double IPA. A coppery amber in color with a moderately persistent ivory-white head and malty, citrus and herbs aroma, American Two-Row and English Pale and Munich malts provide some light, sugary flavors well-balanced by the pronounced bitterness of the “3C” (Columbus, Chinook and Cascade) hops. All-in-all a very well-structured beer that makes it hard to believe that it’s a double IPA.
The Thunderweizen is brewed in the style of a traditional German Hefeweizen: lots of wheat, vigorous fermentation, and completely unfiltered for a full, refreshing flavor that perfectly compliments San Diego's perpetual good weather. Despite the hints of banana, citrus, clove, and other spices, we do not add additives to our beer - that impressive flavor is naturally produced.
A fruity, moderately malty, somewhat spicy, easy-drinking, copper-colored ale.
Our San Diego Pale Ale has so many hop additions that we were forced to redesign our brewlogs to fit everything on one page. Though it pours a surprisingly light gold, a slight haze betrays the huge amount of dry-hops that complete each batch. This onslaught hits the entire spectrum of hop flavors and aromas with especially notable grapefruit and pine character. The balance, if you can call it that, is decidedly bitter with just enough clean malt flavor to keep you coming back - this isn't your typical "one and done" Double IPA! Brewed by San Diego hopheads for San Diego hopheads, Chaotic is a charmingly aggressive beer.
California Common Beer 5.4%
Monkey Paw / Almanac, United States
A lightly fruity beer with firm, grainy maltiness, interesting toasty and caramel flavors, and showcasing the signature Northern Brewer varietal hop characters.
All hail the Rich Mans IPA! A bold copper-colored beer with beautiful gold edges, and crowned with a strong white head. The aroma is grassy with a nice orange and malt presence. The mouthfeel is smooth and solid, with malt that backs up the sticky bitterness. The taste is pine, citrus, and a light malt sweetness that all interplays with the alcohol. Hops, hops, hops, and more hops! Occupy a bar stool, the 1% of beers has arrived!
A fruity, moderately malty, somewhat spicy, easy-drinking, copper-colored ale.
A moderate-strength golden ale that has a subtle Belgian complexity, slightly sweet flavor, and dry finish.
Extra Special/Strong Bitter 5.8%
New English Brewing Company, San Diego, CA
An average-strength to moderately-strong English ale. The balance may be fairly even between malt and hops to somewhat bitter. Drinkability is a critical component of the style; emphasis is still on the bittering hop addition as opposed to the aggressive middle and late hopping seen in American ales. A rather broad style that allows for considerable interpretation by the brewer.
American Brown Ale 6.6%
New English Brewing Company, San Diego, CA
Can be considered a bigger, maltier, hoppier interpretation of Northern English brown ale or a hoppier, less malty Brown Porter, often including the citrus-accented hop presence that is characteristic of American hop varieties.
A refreshing, medium to strong fruity/spicy ale with a distinctive yellow-orange color, highly carbonated, well hopped, and dry with a quenching acidity.
An intensely hoppy, very strong pale ale without the big maltiness and/or deeper malt flavors of an American barleywine. Strongly hopped, but clean, lacking harshness, and a tribute to historical IPAs. Drinkability is an important characteristic; not a heavy, sipping beer.
Characterized by soft, elegant maltiness without being overly sweet.
Welcome to the waters of Wipeout IPA, a massively hopped India Pale Ale with enough substance and body to overcome even the worst and most tragic of on the water spills. We brew Wipeout IPA for everyone- especially those hardy souls who brave the cold winter water and monster sets produced by an amazing northwest swell. Only a tidal wave of hops can overcome the surging tide of malt that is required to produce a beer of this shape. We invite you to drop in, hang on and kick out the backside. That is, unless you enjoy wiping out and all the glory that goes with it.
A clean, crisp, delicately balanced beer usually with very subtle fruit flavors and aromas. Subdued maltiness throughout leads to a pleasantly refreshing tang in the finish.
Rich, malty and usually sweet, which can be suggestive of a dessert. Complex secondary malt flavors prevent a one-dimensional impression. Strength and maltiness can vary
A pale, spicy, fruity, refreshing wheat-based ale.
A decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately strong American pale ale.
Aptly described as the ‘little brother’ to our hard-hitting Imperial Oat Stout, Little Oat is a small beer made from the second runnings of our Big Deluxe mash. Clocking in at only 4.5% ABV, this small beer has an amazingly nuanced gathering of flavors given its heritage. Small beers were once a common brewing method closely marked in beer history — Shakespeare himself mentioned small beers in his sixteenth century writings. This beer will only be brewed on a limited basis so get it while it’s here!
A complex, sour, red wine-like Belgian-style ale.
An intensely hoppy, very strong pale ale without the big maltiness and/or deeper malt flavors of an American barleywine. Strongly hopped, but clean, lacking harshness, and a tribute to historical IPAs. Drinkability is an important characteristic; not a heavy, sipping beer.

A pale, spicy, fruity, refreshing wheat-based ale.
American IPA 6.7%
Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Chico, CA
A decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately strong American pale ale.
You'll find our Stone IPA true to style with huge hop aroma, flavor and bitterness throughout. If you're a hop head like us, you'll love our Stone India Pale Ale. Medium malt character with a heavy dose of over the top hops. Generous dry hopping gives this beer its abundant hop aroma and crisp hop flavor.
It's been said that "Gravity Sucks." Simple enough. Well, we at Stone have identified gravitational forces in the beer world. And we have come to the conclusion that they, well, see above. So we avoid these less-than-desirable gravitational forces. We avoid dumbed-down flavor profiles and the vigorous pursuit of the lowest common denominator. We avoid big dollar marketing mentalities. We avoid additives, cheap adjuncts, stabilizers and chemical preservatives. So in the defiance of gravity we bring you Stone Levitation Ale. This deep amber ale has rich malt flavors, a big hoppy character, citrus overtones (courtesy of the hops and our special brewers yeast) and modest alcohol.
So called because of the "ruinous" effect it has on your palate! This massive hop monster has a wonderfully delicious and intensely hop flavor on a refreshing malt base. One taste and you'll see why we call this brew "a liquid poem to the glory of the hop"! Those who seek, crave and rejoice in beers with big, bold, bitter character will find true nirvana in Stone Ruination IPA!
A decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately strong American pale ale.
5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our ' 12 Days of Christmas' winter seasonal ale series. The only golden ale in the bunch, we spiced up the natural pause in the classic song with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with the delicious sweet and tangy flavor of pineapple. The resulting ale is a true holiday treat that can be enjoyed fresh or cellared until 2019, when 12 Dummers Drumming will be released.
Brewed with 17 lbs. of yams per barrel (in other words, a lot of yams!), this autumn seasonal is a different take on the “pumpkin” beer style. Brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, molasses, and maple syrup, and fermented with our traditional Belgian yeast strain, this bold and spicy beer is perfect on a cold autumn evening.
Refreshing wheat or rye beers that can display more hop character and less yeast character than their German cousins.
A very dark, sweet, full-bodied, slightly roasty ale. Often tastes like sweetened espresso.
Bottles/Cans of Craft Beer at Urge Gastropub - 115
A classic Scotch Ale. Scotch ales are typically sweet and malty, with a very subdued dose of hops? just enough to provide balance. AleSmith Wee Heavy is a wonderful interpretation of this traditional Scotch style. Deep mahogany color with nice tan head. Rich, toasty, malty aroma and flavor with a faint touch of smokiness. A tinge of hops provides the perfect balance to the maltiness. Full-bodied, smooth and warming.
Traditional Belgian wheat style beer. Brewed with a generous portion of wheat and spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel, this beer is fruity, refreshing and slightly cloudy in appearance.
The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream.
Our most versatile beer. Good to drink as well as cook with. Light enough to quench a thirst and complex enough to accompany fine dining. Carmel malty sweet fades to a chocolate roasty finish and dry from a touch of rye
An outstanding hop from New Zealand, Nelson Sauvin, is generously used throughout the brewing and dry-hopping of this unique beer. European rye is added for a smooth, malty addition to flavor.
Willy, named after my brother-in-law?s childhood nickname, is crisp and light-bodied, with a slightly sweet, nutty flavor. The hopping is mild and gentle. It?s perfect for times when you crave a beer utterly refreshing and low in alcohol. A true thirst quencher everyone enjoys.
Crisp, clean, refreshing beer that prominently features alight hop bitterness.
If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You'll revel in Big Eye's bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.
Malty yet not overly sweet because of the slight underlying hops.
There's no wonder why our Pale Ale is so popular?it is skillfully crafted in the style of the Kolsch beers of Cologne, Germany. We've chosen German hops for aroma, and rounded out the recipe with a blend of American and German malts. While it is very much like a pilsner, our Pale Ale is fermented at ale temperatures, giving it a subdued fruitiness?a perfect compliment to the crispness of the wheat and maltiness of the Munich malt. If you like a lighter brew but also like the complexity of craft beers, then our Pale Ale is for you.

Robust Porter 10.0%
Ballast Point Brewing Company, San Diego, CA
Victory at Sea embodies the art of masterful brewing by infusing a velvety Imperial Porter with pure vanilla flavor and specially-selected, hand roasted coffee. The addition of cold brewed coffee to the beer lends a subtle roasted flavor to this robust imperial porter, blending perfectly with rich vanilla and caramel undertones. By uniting two San Diego brewing traditions, Caffe Calabria freshly brewed coffee and Ballast Point beer, we have successfully created an artisanal masterpiece.

Boulevard Brewing Company, Kansas City, MO
Strongly resembles a Strong Golden Ale but slightly darker and somewhat fuller-bodied. Usually has a more rounded malt flavor but should not be sweet.
Mermaid's Red™ bucks the shallow mid-range red ale stereotype. Loaded with Cascade hops, it delivers a fresh floral aroma and sharp bitter notes, all while delivering a solid kick of roasted malts that fades seamlessly into a rich, chocolaty finish with hints of clove and caramel.
A golden, complex, effervescent, strong Belgian-style ale.
Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute IPA., "perhaps the best I.P.A. in America." An Imperial I.P.A. brewed to be savored from a snifter. A big beer with a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. 90 Minute IPA was our first continually-hopped beer, which is a method of hopping that allows for a pungent, but not crushing hop flavor. Since introducing the world to the continual-hopping method with our 90 Minute IPA, we've since released a continually-hopped 60 Minute IPA, 120 Minute IPA and even a 75 Minute IPA (a cask-conditioned blend of 60 & 90 Minute IPAs).

This is one lacerative muther of an ale. It is unequivocally certain that your feeble palate is grossly inadequate and thus undeserving of this liquid glory...and those around you would have little desire to listen to your resultant whimpering. Instead, you slackjawed gaping gobemouche, slink away to that pedestrian product that lures agog the great unwashed with the shiny happy imagery of its silly broadcast propaganda.

When we kicked-off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.
Simtra Triple IPA delivers a punch in the face with its very danky hop aroma derived from Simcoe and Citra hops. You wanted more hops you got them.
Complex, pleasantly sour/acidic, balanced, pale, wheat-based ale fermented by a variety of Belgian microbiota.

We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA. The result is both new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone brew - and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture.
